Official masthead for POP Magazine

As the masthead name suggests, the audience for this magazine would assumable be aimed at people interested in pop music. The font is bold, with rounded edges and very cartoonish which may suggest that it is also aimed at a younger less mature audience, whilst the radiant, bright colours also suggest youth.

Official masthead for DIVERSE Magazine

This may not only aimed at one gender of audience. It is mature, but not overly formal. The name from the magazine shows that it is very diverse and is not only aimed at one genre either...

Official masthead for HOT Magazine

The masthead for hot has changed slightly as to how it looked on the original design. The font is very similar yet it is curvier and has more volume, and it had to be worked into to make it more interesting as it needs to be something that catches the eye of the reader. It is curvy which suggests femininity yet the name and colour suggest passion or possibly raunchiness

masthead ideas.

this masthead would be typical of a pop magazine, one focussing mainly around the hottest new music, and the hottest new artists. I would focuss mainly around the gorgeous, fittest people in the music industry, tieing in with the masthead name. the colours used in the masthead are symbolic of the meaning of the title, and are relevant to heat.

Masthead ideas - diverse

This is another masthead design that would be more sophisticated and not aimed at a younger ‘teenage girl’ audience. It is mature, but not overly formal. The name from the magazine shows that it is very diverse and is not only aimed at one genre.

masthead ideas - pop!

This masthead would be aimed more at a younger audience, The colours are vibrant and the font is blocky and not overly sophisticated. It is something that would typically be seen on a magazine like heat.

photoshoot ideas

These are my ideas for my photo shoot. it includes ideas as to what genre style will be aimed for, which backgrounds will be in shot, and poses that will be seen.

Mind map for my music magazine

This is an insight as to what will be featured in my music magazine. It includes ideas as to what kinds of articles will be featured, who will be featured in these articles, what kind of layout the whole magazine will have, how things would be presented to the audience aimed for, and what kinds of things the magazine will hope to promote.

Moodboard for music mag

The images that i found to include for my moodboard really interested me, either because I thought the photography was particularly good, or the styles looked classy. The artists who are featured are ones that I particularly like, and I think that the layout of the articles that they were featured in looked interesting. There are a range of articles varying in styles. soem are busy, and colourful.

Analysing the masthead for 'Q' magazine

The masthead for Q magazien is literally just a white 'Q' in a red box. The name of the magazine comes from the phrase 'cue the music', which has a literal, straight forward refference to music.
It is always large and in the left top hand corner of the page, makign it easy to see, and the red makes it easy to distinquish. It stands out above the rest of the magazines, and is completely individual. The bright red makes it seem like something that would not be heavy music, aswell the fact that it does not look like something that would be promoting classical music. The italic font shows that it is more for mainstreme attention.

analysis of the masthead for 'kerrang' magazine

The word kerrang is not a word i would have heard before I was introdued to the magazine. I would only associate it with the noise that metal makes when it crashes together, or when a guitare cord is struck, which would be normally associate with rock/metal ect. The font use is very good as it looks brutal and harsh with the lines across it, like broken glass, which is what some of the music may come across as, and black is used which is also a very liked colour associated with hardcore music.

how does denotation and connotation combine in the poster for 'hitman'

An analysis of what we can gather from looking at the poster for the film ‘Hitman’

·         The main character from the poster ‘presumed the main character in the film’ is wearing a suit. It is sleek, black, and he wears it with a red tie. The suit makes the man appear professional, yet the red tie suggests maybe blood or passion.

·         The title of the film and the due date of its release are also in red, which would either suggest blood or passion like the red in the tie of the assumed ‘Hitman’

·         There is an attractive woman in the background, with only half her face showing, this suggests a sense of mystery, yet she is also wearing a very revealing, seductive red dress which would definitely suggest lush and passion.

·         The man in the poster also holds a gun in his hand which is black like his suit, but is so shiny that it almost looks silver. This shows he looks after himself, and along with the suit, suggest that he is much organised.

·         There is a city in the background of the poster which may the vast area that he is working/living in, and a city makes you think how busy it would be, making it seem like the man has a busy lifestyle.

·         The man featured has his head tilted down facing at the camera, and the way in which he is looking looks stern, and shows he is a very serious person.

Analysing the music video for 50 Cent's 'Candy shop'

The way in which woman are viewed, in 50 Cent’s music video for ‘candy shop’

At the beginning of the music video it is made apparent that the song is called ‘candy shop’ but shows a man entering a mansion full of girls. This shows that the candy is in fact the women and that they can be bought. Upon entering we see the building is full of women all in skimpy, seductive clothing, some wearing underwear and lingerie. They appear to be very confident, but show little respect for themselves in the fact that they’re seen as objects, as 50Cent interacts with a number of the women and is very seductive to each. One girl is also seen dressed up in a nurse’s outfit pushing herself up again him, as several of the other girls did. They dance around with barely any clothing on, showing a large amount of skin, and dance very provocatively and making certain private areas very noticeable. Whips are also used in this video which makes the video a whole lot more heated. The man in the video (50cent) clearly appreciates the women, though not for the right reasons. Many people may think that the video downgrades women, and shows little respect for women’s values, showing them as sexual objects that can be paid off.

analysing the music video for motley crue's 'girls girls girls'

How have motley crue been represented in the music video ‘girls, girls, girls’

·         Arriving on motorbikes, speeding and riding their motorbikes with only one hand, making them look tough

·         Going to a strip club and threatening the man in the seat that you want with a knife so that he moves for you, making them look powerful and rebellious putting their feet on the table.

·         As they ride past women in the street, the women blush and smile back which men, when watching this music video would envy.

·         They are chauvinistic and believe that they’re alpha male.

·         When the girls in the video are grabbed and carried around, they have no problem with it, which boys would love to get away with.

·         The girls are comfortable around the guys from motley crue as they just walk around the changing rooms and as they’re getting ready to perform

·         At one point, a girl jumps on one member of the band. Making them look popular with the girls.

contents page of my magazine

The contents for my college magazine is basic, neat, and simple. I tried to prevent it from getting too crowded, and I used pictures the break up the text. The have used the same model from the front screen on my contents page as well, as I would like to feature some of the same people continuously. I have used the same font with the masthead as is used on the front cover, to make it look professional.

college magazine cover

This is a final design for my magazine. it is empty, but I wanted to make sure It wasn't overcrowded. Most magazines these days either go to one extreme or the other with too much writing or not enough. I wanted to make sure that this was not boring to the reader who afterall is going to be a student. so that would mean, keeping the writing on the front cover on the 'down low'. I only wanted to feature a few point on the front age about what is being featured inside it as a wanted people to want to read mor and find out what its all about. The model on the front page is a odel ive used on more than one occasion, but i love working with her as she seems a very interesting person to display.

Masthead

The mast head to my magazine is big and bulky so that it is clear, but it also needs to be like this so that it is easily recognisable. I have put a border around the writing to make it individual to other magazine fonts, as I don't want it to be the same... we want to make it stand out.

Magazine analysis #3

I love this magazine design as it is completely unique to any other I've seen before. Unlike other designer magazines with a white background to contrast the model in the centre of the page, It has more than one model and they appear with landscaping behind them. The magazine name is also very unique and one that you would not get confused with any other. The only criticism would be that the name of the magazine isn't easy to read through the lines cutting through it, but readers farmiliar with the magazine will already know the name of it. the white writing appearing at the top of the page are very elegant and feminine which suits the topic of the magazine.

Magazine analysis #2

This Picture is typically what you would expect to see on the front cover of a design/style/culture magazine,There is one person featured as the main attraction, and there is not much writing featured on the main page either. I love the picture and the style of the model and the fact that the colour scheme of the black and white has been carried through to the font colour and box colour also on the front page. The barcode in the corner of the page also gives magazines a very authentic look which is something I should take notice of.

College Magazine analysis #2

this college magazine personallu steps away fro the normal expected design for a college magazine, and more towards a fassion, gossip magazine. This is actaually a university agazine, but I like the way that there is one person as a main focus. The writing is kept to a minimum which I also like, because the magazine doesn't look boring. the fact that there are only a few selected topics on the front cover is interesting as it shows what they writers prioritise, and what they think students would be interested in. I like the way the cover is not cluttered, which is something that I have done and taken into account when designing my own magazine.

College Magazine analysis #1

I like this design as it is colourful and eye catching which is exactly the kind of thing that would be needed on a college magazine (other than the content of the magazine). it is a little overcrowded for my liking, and especially for a front page. It contains more writing than I would put on my front cover as it makes it seem more boring, and if college students see a magazine with paragraph after paragraph of writing on the cover, personally as a student, I would not be interested.  I can see that there is news on the front cover about apple, and technology like this is definately something that i would consider putting in my college magazine. As students these days are all about who has the coolest phones and ipads.

Magazine analysis #1

I like the blandness of this front cover..it may not suit everyone's taste as it isn't informative, or busy, but I like the fact that it is concentrating on one thing, The title below is relevant to the image and the dark background makes the image stand out more

CD front cover

This is my CD cover. I chose a model that would stand out as being bold, out there and generally cool. the red hair of the model (laura lovejoy)expecially suits the red in the effects, and I wanted for the cover, to not only be taken seriously (hense the black and white) but not be boring. I used this font because the broken up lines intreagued me, and the fragile look suits the calm feel. I didn't want a font that was blocky, and bold, because it seems to be to common these days.

mood board for CD cover

The person featured in this board, has an indie style, which is the genre My music is aimed at. the colours are vibrant but not tacky, and the night street car lights are to bring in a feel of the kind of  atmospere that the people the aimed at, would be about in.
