Analysing the music video for 50 Cent's 'Candy shop'

The way in which woman are viewed, in 50 Cent’s music video for ‘candy shop’

At the beginning of the music video it is made apparent that the song is called ‘candy shop’ but shows a man entering a mansion full of girls. This shows that the candy is in fact the women and that they can be bought. Upon entering we see the building is full of women all in skimpy, seductive clothing, some wearing underwear and lingerie. They appear to be very confident, but show little respect for themselves in the fact that they’re seen as objects, as 50Cent interacts with a number of the women and is very seductive to each. One girl is also seen dressed up in a nurse’s outfit pushing herself up again him, as several of the other girls did. They dance around with barely any clothing on, showing a large amount of skin, and dance very provocatively and making certain private areas very noticeable. Whips are also used in this video which makes the video a whole lot more heated. The man in the video (50cent) clearly appreciates the women, though not for the right reasons. Many people may think that the video downgrades women, and shows little respect for women’s values, showing them as sexual objects that can be paid off.
